Still in Sydney

Not too much to report this time......we have just been spending time here in Sydney, waiting for teeth to heal etc.
Joe is reading a book called Around Australia in Nautilus RV on his iPad......it's about a couple who travelled around Australia in their Ford towing a van in 1957! He is loving the book, it was really cheap (about $3) and he reckons you should all read it if you have an interest in caravanning.
I had to go to the doctor for a BP check.....Amelia referred me to her lovely female GP in Lindfield. Well I filled in the obligatory paperwork, returned it to the receptionist, and a couple of minutes later she called me up and said "are you Peter and Anne Fraser's daughter?" I said indeed I am, and she and her husband had been on a European Bus Tour with Mum and Dad, and they had had several reunions with the group. The name Poupe had obviously been in conversation, and she remembered. I had called her quite recently to say that Dad had died after she sent him a christmas card. What a small place Australia is!
We've had a couple of repairs to do on the van.....the jockey wheel we bought in Adelaide melted in the heat, so we had to take it back today and they replaced it. A few days ago when it was very windy we were putting the awning up, and a gust of wind caught it and buggered something up so we got a new part on the internet.....very fast, efficient service, came from Queanbeyan, and ended up being $9 less than us going to pick it up locally. So Joe's fixing that today.
We are parked next to a lovely couple, Paul and Marlies, who have major problems with their van...they bought a big expensive off roader, a Sunland Winton, just 18 months ago ($103,000). The chassis has rusted and is falling apart, and the company wants nothing to do with it. He is busy writing letters to lawyers, etc. trying to get something done. He can't tow the van, so is stuck here, and it will cost $50,000 to fix it. Into the bargain he has prostate cancer, and is going every day for radiation. Makes our small repairs seem very small! They have been travelling for 7 years and have only just been all the way around australia!
I took Joe to the city on a mystery tour on Monday. First we went to Kings Cross, and did a lap of Darlinghurst Rd. Well it was very sad, too many young people drunk and stoned, absolutely off their faces. So sad to think they are somebody's sons and daughters. It was an eye opener, and not one we want to repeat. Then we went to Jamie Oliver's restaurant in Pitt St for lunch.....at the recommendation of Paul and Ros. This was an experience, absolutely delicious, highly recommended, not expensive, great service, didn't have to queue. Gorgeous!
We bought a box of 16 mangoes for $24......they are absolutely delicious, and we have enjoyed slurping on them, mango juice running everywhere. Also enjoyed watching Will and Ruby chomping into them, and loving it.
Tonight is our last night here.....saying goodbye to the family, and hopefully it won't be too long before we see them again. They're only a short plane flight away.
